Boston University Dental Plan

How do I tell my new dentist that in a week, I am getting a new dentist?
I got a really good dentist right now but i have major issues with my mouth that needs to be fixed.
I got really worried because I was never able to feel pain because I was on opiate pain meds, and once I got off the pain came. Once I quit smoking, the damage showed.
I went to this dentist. I need about 4 root canals, build ups, crowns, scaling/root planning, cavities, the whole works.
He’s already done about 3 of the root canals and a few fillings.
It’s expensive and I’ve been on a waiting list to go to get the stuff done at a dental college.
It is Tufts University in Boston, MA
I heard they are pretty good and the only reason why I’m going there is because of financial reasons.
I’d keep this dentist but i won’t have money to finish what needs to be done.
Any idea how i can or should tell my dentist that I have to make the switch? I’m scared if I tell him now he might mess me up on purpose
Are dental schools good?
If you are afraid to tell the dentist directly, call the office and speak with the office manager or receptionist. I am sure they will understand your problem. Most dentists are ethical enough not to screw you just for leaving their practice for whatever the reason. However, if you are in the middle of a procedure like a root canal, it would be best to have it completed before leaving.
Dental schools are excellent places to have dental work done. You need to realize that it will be very slow because each step a dental student does will need to be checked off. A typical filling in a private practice may take 30 minutes to 45 minutes to do but at a dental school it will take at least 2-3 hours. Just be prepared to do a lot of waiting.
