Go visit one or more agents in your area. The agents can help you with both the type and amount of Insurance that is appropriate for you and your family based upon your goals and needs.
Frankly, there is a lot of information that a competent agent needs that you probably don’t want to post here – income, savings/investments, debts etc etc.
Agents also face license issues (my guess is that they are tough in CA) and so may not be allowed to respond to you on a message board.
Keep in mind that you can own both term and permanent Insurance (I do).
