Student Health Insurance And Oregon
lung surgery financial aid?
My girlfriend has a pulmonary embolism (lung blood clot), at some moments she cannot breath and struggles to get a gasp of air. The surgery to fix her lungs is around $4,000 but the problem is that she is only a junior in high school student. Her father is unemployed so they don’t have health Insurance or any source of income. I don’t want her to give up on me. I know there has to be some hope out there. We are located in Oregon, is there any local organization that could assist us or some sort of grant we can apply for?
1) Her family may be eligible for Medicaid, state medical Insurance for the poor
2) If they aren’t (usually because of too much money [even if he’s not working, go figure), then virtually all hospitals have a program where they give free or reduced cost care. By federal law, urgently needed medical care can’t be denied for the inability to pay.
I’d suggest that the surgery be done at a one of the major hospitals in Portland. Eugene & Corvallis have good hospitals, but for a surgery like this, you want the docs that do the most.
